The Prophet : On giving

If you give,
with the desire of getting something back,
give not,
for you are giving a burden to the other person,
and creating a hole in your soul,
which must be filled by the return,
or get covered with the mud of resentment,

give,
when your soul is so moved with pity or love,
that your hearts cup is overflowing with joy or compassion,
that you are not able to contain it,
then go,
and pour it into the other person's cup,
for that is what your soul's desire is,
and the receiver too will know that he can keep it.
